Welcome the web page of Europa Re-enactment Association Inc.

We are a living history and re-enactment group based in the Blue Mountains West of Sydney in Australia. We re-create the pastimes, crafts and culture of Dark Age Europe, focusing on the period of Viking occupation of the city of York in northern England. Known by its Norse name of Jorvik, York was occupied by the Vikings and ruled by them for almost a hundred years in the 9th and 10th centuries.

We try to recreate life as it was over a millennium ago, with traditional crafts, games, cooking, and costume, as well as re-enactment combat using period armour and weapons. We do shows for the public, for schools and regularly attend inter-club re-enactment events that recreate medieval village life, trying to experience life without mobile phones, electricity or any of the modern comforts we usually take for granted.

Most of our equipment and costume is our own work. We try to do as much as we can by hand, using period tools and techniques, while learning new skills, keeping traditional crafts alive, and learning about life in an era usually stereotyped as an age of ignorance.

We meet for our regular combat training nearly every Saturday at Buttenshaw Park in Springwood, so if you are interested in joining, or just having a look, feel free to come along for a chat. Please note; as we are often engaged in club projects or camping weekends, Contact our Training Marshal, Leigh Brodrick, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or Steve Close on 0421 416 330 to make sure we will be there that day. Training is usually called off in wet weather.
